IMPROVING STUDENTS' SPEAKING SKILL BY USING SHADOWING TECHNIQUE FOR THE ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMK ANDALUSIA 1 WONOSOBO

This research aims first, to improve students' speaking skills by using shadowingtechnique. Second, to determine the improvement in students' speaking skills byusing shadowing technique. Third, to find out the difference in english speakingskill between those who use the shadowing technique and those who do not usethe shadowing technique. This type of thesis research uses quantitative researchusing true experimental design a Pre-test Post-test Control Group Design. Thesubjects of this research are two classes in class researchers use pre-test as ameans to test students' abilities before the experiment is carried out, and post-testto test students' abilities after the experiment is carried out. Then the results areanalyzed and compared using the t-test and score gain test to determine thedifferences and improvements in students' speaking skills between the twoclasses studied. Furthermore, the data sources are obtained by observation,interviews, questionnaires, documentation and test. The research results showedthat first, the average pre-test score is 45.85 in the experimental class and 40.95in the control class. Meanwhile, the average post-test score in the experimentalclass is 85.85 and in the control class is 62.15. Second, there is a difference inenglish speaking skills between the experimental class and the control class, thisis proven by hypothesis testing, obtained tcount 10.20 and ttable = 2.024 with alevel of 5% because thing 10.20 > ttable 2.024. There is an increase in students'speaking skills as evidenced by the results of the gain test in the experimentalclass which is 0.359. So it can be concluded that the use of shadowing techniquecan improve students' speaking skill.
